Freeview is the consumer-facing name for Digital Terrestrial Television in the UK. Users can buy boxes (from £20) without a need for subscription that allows them to receive over 40 television and radio channels.
Whilst Freeview seems like one consumer proposition, it’s actually made up of six multiplexes each broadcasting a selection of services to the UK. Each multiplex can carry commercial services except Multiplex 1 and Multiplex B which just carry BBC services.
Freeeview capacity is signficantly constrained, however as Digital Switch Over takes place there will be new capacity that is released.
